Operation Desert Fun is an annual fund raiser for Cal4Wheel and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Cal-Diego Chapter, usually held at the Ocotillo Wells SVRA. However, because of a recent petition to have a lizard put on the endangered species list, the SVRA halted issuing permits for events. That left us in a bind with little time to find an alternative location. We could move the event to BLM land, but that would make it tough on the vets, so we needed another option.
The owners of the Blu In RV Park in Ocotillo Wells offered to let us hold the event at their facility, so we jumped at the opportunity! The RV park is conveniently located on Highway 78 with 185 full hook-up spaces, a restaurant, a store, a spa and a pool! People who decide to rent one of their spaces will have full access to the facilities. People dry camping, or those who don?t want to rent a space can camp in an open area on the property for no charge, but we encourage everyone who can to rent a space. For every space rented, the facility will donate back $10 per night to the event. With such a generous offer, I hope we fill the place up!
The Ocotillo Wells SVRA is still open for individuals to use, but we are not allowed to take large groups into the park, so this year we will be taking trail runs into the Superstition area. More details about 4x4 runs as well as side-by-side and motorcycle runs will become available as we get closer to the event.
We will have our usual, awesome raffle on Saturday night, maybe after you have had a refreshing dip in the pool! Also on Saturday night, the Blu In will be offering dinner. Join us for some great food and great company. This is the first year that we will be offering dinner at ODF so let?s make it worthwhile. They have a restaurant on site, so if you don?t want to pack food, they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We will also be inviting vendors back this year. This location is great for vendors! If you are interested, please contact me.
Folks who register get one raffle ticket for a separate raffle for something cool. And even better, those who register before August 31 get to take advantage of the great price of $25! After August 31, the registration price will be $40, so make sure to register as soon as you finish reading this!
We are always looking for raffle donations, which don't have to be 4x4 related. If you, your club or your business would like to donate cash or product, your donation is tax deductible. All proceeds from the raffle go directly to the PVA.
