HIGH SIERRA POKER RUN 2012
Another High Sierra Poker Run is complete. This was one of
our most successful events ever. This year’s event was extra
special because of our special guests. Del and Stacie
Albright of the Blue Ribbon Coalition and Richard Winchester
of BFG. They were there to present Lock and Low Four Wheel
Drive Club with this year’s BFG Outstanding Trail Award for
their work on the Mirror Lake Trail.
The weekend started with our one day run over Swamp Lake. If
you have never been to this trail, you should put it on your
bucket list. Beautiful scenery that reaches elevations up to
10,000 feet. Central District VP, Steve Egbert was the trail
boss for this run. Everyone had a fantastic time. This trail
compares to the Dusy Ershim. Another famous trail that is in
the same area of the Sierra’s. The main difference is that
you can run it in one day instead of 3 or 4.
An hour after the one day run left camp, the return of our
overnight run on Swamp Lake left camp. The overnight run
was led by Jesse Conyers. According to Jesse, the camping at
Grouse Lake was amazing. Camp sites directly on the
waterfront. Fish were there for the taking.
This is definitely a nice way to enjoy this trail.
Our 3rd run of the day started around 9 a.m. with Kingsburg
Four Wheel Drive Club leading the way around Bald Mountain.
This run is designed for the less experienced and the “faint
at heart” four wheelers. There are some excellent
opportunities to have some fun, with “Hollywood Hill”, “V”
Rock, and “posi”. Plenty of by-passes for any of the more
Again we offered a UTV run on Bald Mountain. Saturdays run
included 4 UTV’s with Roger Hughes leading the way.
Sunday got off to a great start with our “ladies run” on Bald
Mountain. This was the second year for this run and the only
requirements were, the ladies had to drive. This year’s
run was sponsored by Trail Gear. All the ladies received a
free Trail Gear ladies T shirt. There were 12 ladies on this
run. Some of the ladies had never driven on the trail
The event concluded with a fantastic dinner of Tri Tip and
Chicken, catered by Anthony Freitas of Freitas Catering.
After dinner we had the presentation of BFG’s Outstanding
Trail Award. Lock and Low Four Wheel Drive Club is a well
deserving recipient of this award. Their tireless efforts on
the Mirror Lake Trail sets the standard that other clubs
I would like to personally thank all of our corporate
sponsors that donate to our raffle as well as Trail Gear for
their sponsorship of the ladies run and generous donations to
our raffle. 4 Wheel Parts Fresno for their generous
donations. Display Advertising of Fresno for their donation
of our dash plaques. Kingsburg Four Wheel Drive Club for
their donation of our awards and help on the Bald Mountain
run. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the
Hanford Trail Busters especially Kim and Clay Weed for their
efforts in making this one of the most successful High sierra
Poker runs to date. Without sponsorship and efforts of
individuals and clubs, these events would not generate the
income needed to help keep our trails open.
