Save The Hammers campaign underway

Written by California Motorized Recreation Council.

National OHV Lobby Days March 14-15

The most powerful voice comes from you. Join your fellow OHV enthusiasts from across the country, and call for a meeting with your local congressmen to educate him or her on the 29 Palms Marine Base expansions and why we need to save this unique OHV area. Congress will decide the fate of the Hammer. Make sure your voice is heard and help stop the base expansion!

We need your help to Save the Hammers

On April 27, 2012 the US Marine Corps will submit their Final Environmental Impact Study and light the fuse that starts a chain of events to close 160,000 acres of the Johnson Valley OHV area. If this happens, less than 2% of the southern California desert would be open to OHV use! We need your help to ensure the future of the Hammers.

Here is how you can help:

  • Visit our Action Center and provide your address to find your legislators and obtain their contact information.
  • Call and set an appointment for March 14 and 15, 2012 with your local federal legislator. If you are unable to visit them personally, use the Action Center to write a letter instead.
  • Tell them you live in their district and wish to discuss a pending Marine Base expansion that will affect your lifestyle.
  • Visit your legislators on March 14 and 15. Be sure to check in on Facebook and other social media while you are there.
  • Download and print these talking points when talking with your federal legislator. What is important to you should be important to them. Let them know that the 29 Palms Marine Base expansion is expensive, unneeded and will destroy a much-loved tradition. Ask them to oppose this unnecessary action and help save the Hammers.
