ACTION ALERT: Critical meeting on Oceano Dunes SVRA

We have a very critical California Coastal Commission (CCC) meeting coming up on July 8,9 and 10.

There is no doubt that many of these public agencies and environmental groups have one goal and that is to close Oceano Dunes SVRA down to OHV recreational activities. They do not care what issues they use: dust emissions, safety, Endangered Species and now COVID19. They will do anything to close us out of the dunes we have recreated in for decades.

It is time to speak up.

There has never been a more critical time for all Off Roaders to get involved!

We desperately need your voices and help to fight to save OHV at Oceano Dunes SVRA.  

The upcoming CCC meetings are virtual so there are many ways you can participate:

You can write a comment letter and email to  CentralCoast@coastal.ca.gov  by Thursday July 9, 2020.

You can participate from your phone or computer by filling out a request to speak form. Please select the public comment registration link for the meeting day below you would like to speak. Please select Public Comments when filling out your Comment Registration.

There are several items to comment on within the PUBLIC Works Plan.

The Oso Flaco Improvement Project is something very important to the OHV Community. This project would allow OHV Access from the southern end of the dunes.

DEVELOPMENT IN OSO FLACO LAKE AREA

• Add a new entrance to the park and kiosk.
• Widen Oso Flaco Road to allow large RV access and increased traffic.
• Convert agricultural land to provide camping accommodations that include RV sites, tent camp sites, cabins and hike and bike sites.
• Build campfire area and environmental education center.
• Add new hiking trails and group gathering areas.
• Provide a lifeguard tower, restrooms, and a gathering area at the beach.
• Add a boardwalk extension to create a complete loop.
• Open 40 acres of OHV trails in what is now vegetated area near Oso Flaco.

As you are writing your comments please keep in mind that the Oceano Dunes SVRA was purchased with Green Sticker Trust Fund money for the purpose of promoting OHV recreation and preserving these OHV areas for future generations.

The Oceano Dunes SVRA provides a major economic benefit to the local businesses and residents and the dunes also offer a unique recreational experience that provides access to coastal recreation for millions of Californians.

The Oceano Dunes SVRA itself generates more than $150 Million dollars a year in economic activity from outside visitors. It is a major contributor to the SLO County’s tourism industry that has already been hit hard by the COVID19 lock down.
